Where or is there somewhere in the Theme options that you can add the DFP code so it doesn’t get overwritten with every update.

sorry but dfp ads were never tested with our theme. Please use this topic for implementation: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/tutorial-responsive-ads-with-google-dfp/
There is no theme ad spot where you can place it. sorry
