Hey,
I have the Newspaper7 theme installed on my website (www.republicannonpareil.com) and overall I am very happy with the theme.
I am having an issue with the thumbnails and the way that it is cropping them. It works well with most of the categories but for a couple of the categories, the way that it is cropping is not working right and optimally.
Under the “Obituaries” category for instance…Most of the featured images here are vertical in nature, so when it crops them to a horizontal layout, it is only showing the top part of their head.
My question is: Is there a way to change the thumbnail size for a certain category?
Or if not, is there a way to change the size of the thumbnails or how the theme crops the thumbnails?

You use module 16 to display your articles on OBITUARIES category. Module 16 uses the wordpress thumbnail and not one generated by the theme and you can control it’s size from wordpress settings – http://screencast.com/t/oBz9lqNf – http://screencast.com/t/oIIOIkkyloNk and regenerate your thumbnails(you can do some test only for a single image).
Or you can try to change the module used on the specific category and try for example module 19 maybe it respects more the aspect ratio of your images – http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/category/module-19-layout/

Cool, I’ll have to try some of those out…
My problem is more specifically on the blocks that you put on the front page of my website.
When you click on the category, the thumbnails are square, but on the front page, the thumbnails are more horizontal…
Is there a way to make the thumbnails on the blocks so they are square and not horizontal?
Also, where do you go to change this “On each category you can set a Category template style, a Top post style (grids) and a module type for article listing. Also each top post style (grids) have 5 different look style. You can mix them to create a beautiful and unique category page.”

Unfortunately there is no simple way to alter a block thumbnail. You will need coding skills for it in order to use the theme api system https://forum.tagdiv.com/api-thumbnail-introduction/
