My main menu duplicates itself when clicking on any of the items, so that the same menu items appear twice on two rows, e.g. http://polandtrips.staging.wpengine.com/category/history-and-culture/

Not sure why this is happening and how to turn it off? Can you explain?
It doesn’t happen when I have second level categories (then the second row only shows the second level categories), however, I don’t really need any second level categories.

That second menu it’s available just on category pages and it’s shows the current category siblings or subcategories.
Those categories: http://screencast.com/t/qsmOg0NN are displayed by default by the theme, and can be hidden from category settings in theme panel > categories, like here: http://screencast.com/t/NvSYGvsQJ
