Duplication

Hello,
I was currently checking my site and faced the problem, that there are pretty many duplicated things.
The most problematic are URLs with the following ‘endings’ appearing from nowhere:
– ?filter_by=featured/
– ?filter_by=popular/
– ?filter_by=review_high/
– ?filter_by=random_posts/
– ?filter_by=popular7/
While writing this message I realised that recently have implemented new view of the home page, where I used this filters. But is there any way to hide this things to avoid duplication?
Thank you for your support.
Vladimir

Hi,

Not sure what your issue is, could you please send your sites’s URL so I can inspect this and point me to where this duplication occurs.
Please also make sure that you set the permalink structure to default and try this without any plugins active.
Please let me know!

Thanks

Lucian,
I do change the URL structure from basic to the following: /%category%/%postname%.html Also with extra code a cut word ‘category’ from URL.
These are some of duplicated content that I can find in site examination:
http://showtopmodel.ru/istorii-uspeha/best?filter_by=popular
http://showtopmodel.ru/istorii-uspeha/best?filter_by=popular
7/
http://showtopmodel.ru/istorii-uspeha?filter_by=review_high/

All in all I got 14 of them.

Hi,

Could you please provide more details about the issue you have with duplicated content as I have checked your site and haven’t found any duplicated posts or something.. http://screencast.com/t/hOVuTbdtMm8k
This endings from the url structure appears when you switch between different category filters. This filter are only present on category pages.

– ?filter_by=featured/
– ?filter_by=popular/
– ?filter_by=review_high/
– ?filter_by=random_posts/
– ?filter_by=popular7/

It’s not an issue, you can also see this on our demo: http://demo.tagdiv.com/newsmag/category/tagdiv-fashion-week/?filter_by=random_posts
Please let me know!

Thanks

Hi Lucian,
I didn’t put my thought correct.
I do understand that these are filters, that make these extra URL. But I would like these elements to be closed from index so that they do not appear in the search, because the system that I use for site analysis says that the pages I mentioned above are duplications.

So once again. I would like to have on my site quite clear structure: categories and posts. All the rest:
( – ?filter_by=featured/
– ?filter_by=popular/
– ?filter_by=review_high/
– ?filter_by=random_posts/
– ?filter_by=popular7/)
I would like to exclude from search and use only as navigation. Could you please help with the issue?
One more question.
While analysing the page I faced the problem of html errors. In one post according to system there are 39 of them. http://pix.my/BhzYLetj
Most of them are the following:
Error Line 34, Column 216: Attribute itemprop not allowed on element meta at this point.
Error Line 549, Column 198: & did not start a character reference. (& probably should have been escaped as &.)
Warning Line 557, Column 545: The name attribute is obsolete. Consider putting an id attribute on the nearest container instead.
Error Line 593, Column 150: The frameborder attribute on the iframe element is obsolete. Use CSS instead.

I’m not a programmer and can’t estimate the importance of mistakes. Could you please kindly comment on the issues mentioned?
Sincerely,
Vladimir

Hi,

This is a common and known issue and it’s related to your server configuration you can also test this on our forum or other site’s and just add another parameter like this ?parameter to the URL structure and you will find that it load the same page that is why this is interpreted as duplicate content.
To prevent search robots to index URL you can try using a plugins like WordPress Yoast SEO: https://yoast.com/wordpress-noindex-specific-posts-and-pages/ or you can also use this URL blocking method: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/6062608?hl=en

The theme doesn’t pass the html5 validator you can also check his on out demo site: http://demo.tagdiv.com/newsmag/
We know about this and will try to fix this in the future.

Thanks

Lucian, thank you for the replies.
Is there any plan for updates you will provide us? I mean how long could it take to improve the theme to certain level?
Let me explain, I would like to implement some changes in the theme to make it work the way I would like to, but I’m a bit afraid, that if you make an interesting and valuable update, I won’t be able to use it, since all my corrections will be lost.
Now I face a minor problem already. The word “SHARE” is given in English only and it is hidden in the code. Logically it would be super nice and easy to have it in TRANSLATION section, so that people could translate it into the language they need. Don’t you think so?

It would be nice of you to share your thoughts and comments on the issue.

Hi,

Unfortunately I can’t offer you an exact answer on this as we are constantly trying to improve our product and satisfy our clients and we plan to make our products so that it would pleases everyone and if more clients make requests for a features/supports or functionality then we will try to do it, so the theme evolution will be determined on the go.
You can make your changes and take note of them and when a new updated releases then you update the theme and make your changes again.
The word “Share” will be included in one of the next updates on the Translations list.
The theme setting (the ones on the Theme Panel including translations and custom css) won’t be lost on update. If you make modifications on the theme code you can look on the modified files log which comes with the theme (it’s also posted on the theme presentation page, just scroll down until you find it) and update only those files (not the entire theme). If one of the files modified by you has been also modified by us in the update you’ll have to update it and reapply the custom modifications. My advice is to also and always backup the theme and the database before each update, in case something goes wrong you can return to the previous state.
Please also note that we are always open for suggestions and also if you find other issues please report them and we will do our best to fix them.

Thanks

I don’t want this either. Just another headache to deal with Google. Don’t need this on the page period. I got no reviews etc.

How do we remove it all together.

Why do we have to have this option on permanently? You have such an interface to decide whether or not we want a category tag on a block, yet we cannot decide with a simple option to turn this off.

Please….

Hi mboydnv,

I believe you refer to the pull-down filter which appears on category pages: http://screencast.com/t/kOU8DtDNdGa That can be removed by commenting this line in the category template file you’re using: http://screencast.com/t/GMn2QAHfKhttp://screencast.com/t/FStrQuO9N1
We also have this on our request list so we’ll consider adding an option for this in future updates.

Hope this helps! Let me know if this is not what you’ve meant!
Thanks for the message!
