Hi all,
I’m trying to use the new version of Newspaper, but before testing it on my live site, I’m trying to download my existing site using Duplicator to my PC where I can work with the new theme.
However!
Duplicator doesn’t work anymore, it keeps having errors caused by database issues. This means I cannot use the new Newspaper theme. 🙁
I’ve looked at the Duplicator help, and have tried the suggestion of removing utf8mb with just utf8, but still no joy. 🙁
Has anyone else here had this problem? And have you solved it so you can download your Newspaper theme to your local machine and then back again to production?
As a database-dummy, I would REALLY appreciate any help from anyone that has figured this out.
Finally, if you are not using Duplicator to create a clone of your production site on a local server, do you use something different? If so, what do you use?

I use duplicator to make clone of my site on my live server, then download the backup file to my PC from the site. Works flawlessly even on 10 year old sites.
You can always do a repair/optimize on your dbase first, which you should be doing anyway with at least things like the wp-optimize plugin.
You can also try to repair dbase or optimize via phpmyadmin.
Make sure you have enough memory assigned to php to run the tool; make sure your timeout isn’t too short for Duplicator.
That may not help, but it’s been my own experience.
