Easiest Way to Update Theme

I apologize in advance if this is already mentioned but I could not find it.

I love how you guys show ‘Modified/Added’ files. Usually I go in and find and replace the files via an FTP client because I customized other files that I don’t want to overwrite if I were to upload the full theme again.

Is there an easier way than just replacing the modified and adding the new files since the last update has a large amount of adjustments?

It would help a lot. I am currently updating the theme and it might take more than an hour. As I have done a lots of customization, I don’t want to overwrite them but if there was an easy way, it would only take 5-10 minutes. Anyone?

I use the plugin ‘Envato WordPress Toolkit’, updates the theme in less than 30 seconds and keeps my changes (if the updates doesn’t override specific files that i’ve changed) 🙂

@gee95 You’re right. But most of the time tagDiv goes through the all the important files such as single.php, style.css and other files. So, it overwrites the files 🙁

Hi,
There is no solution for that, sorry about that! If you have modified files you need to inspect the The list of modified files for each update and see if you have there some file that you have done customization.

Manually or using a compare tool you need to check and see the differences of the code. You can try with WinMerge, is a nice tool.
