Fatal Error before and after updating from 4.7 -> 4.9.5

Hi there, we have followed the update guide but are still getting the following error whenever we try to add any plugin, logout, login, add any theme, and various other scenarios:

Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Class 'td_util' not found
in /var/www/staging.nebraskanewsservice.net/htdocs/wp-content/themes/Newsmag/functions.php on line 156

Call stack:

include()
wp-settings.php:508
require_once()
/var/www/staging.nebraskanewsservice.net/wp-config.php:115
require_once()
wp-load.php:42
require_once()
wp-admin/admin.php:34
require_once()
wp-admin/plugins.php:10

We can provide credentials to our staging site where this issue is present, just need to know the best way to do that securely. We’d also need to know what actions are taken to fix this so that we can perform them on the live site.

Hi,

Just make sure that you made the update as in our documentation from here , if you didn’t have the auto-update option, then the best way for theme update is via FTP/cPanel.

Is look that now on staging this is the problem you are facing -> https://i.imgur.com/2coIAw2.png usually this can be fix using the indications from these articles:
-> https://www.webfulcreations.com/there-has-been-a-critical-error-on-your-website/
-> https://www.wpfixit.com/wordpress-error-there-has-been-a-critical-error-on-your-website/

Please make sure that all the settings are like in our requirements, please follow the guide carefully
https://forum.tagdiv.com/newsmag-requirements-for-newsmag/
and please increase all requirements that are lower, and follow all steps.

Let me know the results!

Just checked and we do meet all of the requirements.

The guides you posted ask about the error, which I posted in my initial question. They also suggest disabling plugins, which I have done. The only thing that resolves the error is switching themes, which is not an option.

Any idea what the td_util class does any why it’s not showing up?

I have re-updated the theme following the guide and it still does not work.

You can close this ticket, as we believe we have it sorted. For anyone else facing this same issue, what worked for us was swapping to 2020 theme, backing up and deleting all existing Newsmag themes (including the child theme) and installing the theme fresh per the guide referenced above. It seems to us like the child theme was what was causing the issue, even though ours was pretty much empty. We didn’t have a ton of customizations in it, but other user’s mileage may vary.
