This is a very fundamental question about feature images.
I have checked your demo images are around 1068 x 712px but I have uploaded compressed 800 x 550px, 48kB for the feature image with PhotoshopCC and looks fine. I think I may have to upload up to 80KB for good quality images (it depends on the original photo）.
I have also set up in “Media Settings” >large size > max Width 1068px > max height 1068px.
should I change 800 x 800px? for larg size setting in “Media Settings”, is this work for what I want?
I’m using Beauty blog template and all pages and post have sidebar so there are not any full-width posts, just want to fill in only for width in the post content area.
I’m trying to build this site as light as possible with good quality photos.
If there is any advice for this website set?

This is up to you, the ideal would be a medium – normal size like (800×600) or something close so you could achieve page speed and also have quality on your page.
