Feature request: ratings total override?

Hello, and thanks for the great theme.

I would like to request the ability to override the total rating in a post that uses the built-in review system. Sometimes I would like to break down reviews with ratings for individual facets of the subject in question, but I don’t want the final rating to be an average of the sub-ratings.

For example, something that has sub-ratings less than five stars may still deserve a 5-star overall score.

If this is already implemented and I’m just missing it, could someone point me in the right direction?

After trying to hack together some code to send your way (and for my own future use) to override ratings, I failed miserably. Hopefully the tagDiv crew has a solution, or can point me in the right direction to customize the theme 🙂

It also seems that if you edit the custom field td_review_key to a custom number, it gets re-generated on a page update to the average of all rating fields. If that custom field could get overridden without being re-averaged, that would be really awesome.

I think he meant if the review is something like this:

graphics 2/5
audio 1/5
Experience 5/5

He may want the total to be 4-5 stars (because he values experience higher than the other stuff) rather than the averaged 3-4 stars.

I encountered the same thing when I did some of my app reviews, because some review fields are more important than others.

Also will future versions of Newspaper allow for half stars in the visual part of it? I mean on the app store for example, apps can have 4 1/2 stars. Here the theme rounds 4.5 stars up to 5 stars, which is like rounding a great movie up to the best movie in the universe.

You are spot-on @octavian. I would love to be able to manually enter the overall score. Things are often more (or less) than the sum of their parts. 🙂

Oh, also @Marius, thanks for the replies. Quick question: Will reviews using the current system be changed/affected by the future changes?

Jonathan, if you mean “will we have to edit our reviews when the new review system comes out” then the answer to that is highly no. The developers would never update the theme in such a way that could make someone with 1,000+ review have to spend time or money on updating because the developers felt like redesigning the system from the ground up.

Marius and Radu are sane developers, so that will never happen 🙂
