Featured image at top of a post should not be clickable

Hi,
the featured image at top of a post should not be clickable…

currently in v 1.5 the featured image at top of post is rendered with a
site/post/# anchor link.

Specifically that image should not be clickable, especially for sites in Google News where GN needs the image “unlinked” to differentiate from an advertisement. A static image part of the editorial “flow” should not be linkable, particularly “full size” image.

This behavior does not occur when the image is simply placed (e.g., 700×406 ‘feature’ image). But when chosen as featured image to be seen on inedexes, the “bug” occurs to make the image clickable.

I think in Chrome when logged in, it becomes an “EDIT” link on hover, which we should not see either.

sorry…. using v 1.6 for everything, in case that matters.

This may also account for the error when clicking on the Pinterest share button not transferring the featured image, as I believe they “scrape” that and also look for “unlinked” images !

I can confirm this causes Google News to skip the featured image, which is not the behavior we want. The “featured” or main image should be the primary, and must be unlinked.

How can I unlink the featured image for the post page ? The setting in the config panel is set as “no link” vs lightbox, but I don’t think that applies to the post image on the post page.

We need to fix this one ASAP.

Thanks for reporting this and I’m sorry for the delay. I’ve added this as a bug on our issue tracker https://github.com/opradu/newspaper/issues/124

we will start working on it asap.
