Featured Image Issue

I recently upgraded to the latest version of Newspaper theme and have run into an issue with featured images – specifically with thumbnails being pulled from YouTube/Vimeo embedded content. The last several video posts (http://mountainjourney.com/blog/) will not produce a featured image when using YouTube Pro plugin or Newspaper Theme Featured Video/Image. I’ve tired to deactivate plugins with no success. Thoughts?

Hello mountainjourney,

I have checked your website and the Featured image cover for your video posts seems to be displayed as expected as you can see here -> https://www.screencast.com/t/wM4xPIhuDyd9 Also, notice that we do not recommend using untested plugins with the theme because we cannot provide support for them, unfortunately!

Thanks for your understanding!

The problem only exists with the new posts that I’ve published since the theme update (ex: http://mountainjourney.com/arcteryx-in-constant-motion/). The posts prior to the theme update are fine. It seems the issue is with the capture of the featured image function in Newspaper Theme.

I’ve tried to deactivate all of the plugins and still run into the same issue.
Thoughts?

Hello mountainjourney,

I have inspected your above post example and I saw that your video is in post content and it’s not added to a featured video and that’s why your featured images have not been created. -> https://www.screencast.com/t/N959iwGkf You should do like this -> https://www.screencast.com/t/ChyibVZ8qUJ

Thanks for your understanding!

I’ve tried this too. After entering the YouTube link in the featured Video function, I always receive a 500: Internal Error. When I return to the post, sometimes there is a featured image in the featured image box, but not always. This time there was. The featured image appears on Mobile but does not show up on the desktop. In the media library, the file is titled maxresdefault.jpg and has no thumbnail.

Thoughts?

Hello mountainjourney,

Try to remove all of the untested plugins because I saw that you are using something like this, clear all the caches and check the results.

Hope this helps and let us know how it goes!

Thanks for your understanding!

Sorry for the slow reply. This issue seem to fix itself with the latest update. Thanks!

Hi – replying to this thread. I seem to have the same exact issue mountainjourney mentioned above. What exactly is the resolve?

I put in the youtube link information in the Featured Video, on publish I get a 500 internal server error and I get a maxresdefault.jpg image in my media library with no image. Issue only occurs with YouTube links, not my vimeo links.

Hi ajayrijh,

Please provide your website URL and some useful screenshots with the problem so I can identify it closer.

I updated to 9.2.2 last week thinking the week between Christmas and New Years was a good time to do this sort of work. Upon installing 9.2.2 all of the feature images disappeared on the front page. They were of course where they were when you opened the individual post, but not under any category index or on the front page layout. I commented on someone else’s post about having the same issue they were but noticed you folks were taking a well deserved holiday, so I reverted to the backup from the night before as I didn’t want to have a broken looking site for a week. I tried turning off plugins to no avail. I also cleared the SiteGround cache to no avail. How do we correct this issue and will it be better addressed in the next release, or???

Thank you!

Two sites (two licenses… only one was changed and changed back)

Hi,

All the website still working fine and all the featured images return better results. -> https://www.screencast.com/t/MhpUEa83W

Thanks.

You must have missed the sentence where I said I reverted to a backup version of the website. I am using 9.1 where you screenshot, not 9.2.2. 9.2.2 killed all my feature images. I did not want a broken site while you folks were on holiday.

Thanks Catalin – sorry for the delayed response.

When I input a youtube link on a video post in wordpress, when posting, I consistently get a 500 internal server error. This only happens for youtube videos. The featured image populates on the post edit screen after receiving the 500 internal server error; but the image does not show up correctly in the wordpress media library, search results, or certain td blocks. It populated for a slider block. Below are screenshots:

Vimeo videos and the featured images for vimeo are working fine.
