I have set the “article image” for my article (I believe it’s also called “Featured image”), as I have done for all my previous articles, yet that image is not shown as a thumbnail in Facebook postings where I link to that particular article.
I entered the article address in Facebook debugger at
https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/
and it tells me this:
“og:image could not be downloaded or is too small og:image was not defined, could not be downloaded or was not big enough. Please define a chosen image using the og:image metatag, and use an image that’s at least 200x200px and is accessible from Facebook. Image ‘http://vastavalkea.fi/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Tuloerojen_kasvu_2.jpg’ will be used instead.”
The size of the image is 700 x 446 pixels, so it should be big enough while not being too big. As I understand, 700 pixels is also the recommended width for 2-column-wide images in the Newspaper theme.
As the debugger tells me, another image in the article is used instead of my featured image.
How can I define the image using the “og:image metatag”?
Hi,
The theme doesn’t output automatic the og: meta data information but you can use a plugin for this. We recommend to use this plugin WordPress SEO by Yoast plugin because is the best for SEO. Just install it and activate the meta data: http://screencast.com/t/9CBtZm0bESiP
We use it on our demo to.
Thanks!
Hi Alin,
Thanks – I installed the plugin. The “Add Open Graph metadata” option was selected by default.
When I then entered the troublesome article’s web address in the Facebook debugger, the following cryptic error message is shown:
Object at URL ‘http://vastavalkea.fi/2015/04/12/koneisto-kertoo-kreikasta-paljon-valheita/’ of type ‘article’ is invalid because it specifies multiple ‘og:url’ values: http://vastavalkea.fi/2015/04/12/koneisto-kertoo-kreikasta-paljon-valheita/, http://vastavalkea.fi/2015/04/12/koneisto-kertoo-kreikasta-paljon-valheita/.

As we can see, the values that the debugger gives are identical. What could that mean?
The debugger also telle me “Based on included and inferred properties, the above preview is what users will see when they share this url”, and one of the images in the articles is shown. Not, however, the featured image.
Hi,
Please check your page source an you will see that the og: tags are duplicated: http://screencast.com/t/85RLqHGfXs – http://screencast.com/t/r7aVxhD6DHwD that’s why you have this error.
Please try this without any plugins active(make sure that you deactivate plugins that affect this meta og:), leave just Visual Composer and SEO by Yoast active, clear cache and check again if you still have this issue on facebook debugger.
Thanks!
Hello, right now I have the same problem in http://nncoahuila.com, already is SEO active but the image is still not showing. What can be? Regards!
Hi,
Sorry but I cannot access your site http://nncoahuila.com
Make sure you use the fb debugger like mentioned above and check for any issues.
Thank you!
