Featured images are uploaded and can be seen as featured in the admin of the post, but when we view the post from the admin or on the website itself, the featured mages do not show up. This has been happening after the latest update of the Newspaper theme. I have cleared the cache, disabled plugins and tried everything I can think of to fix the issue. Please advise.

That is not a new feature, and I believe it is active by default. In some cases this feature could cause image problems, usually when there are plugin conflicts. Deactivate it if that is the case.

Some browsers, particularly Safari on iOS (e.g., iPad) don’t like that option as it seems to conflict with the way the browser does its own caching and sequential loading of elements. I run into this on the LA Times website all the time … half the time, bottom of half of page won’t even load. But works in Chrome.
So, upshot – test site in ALL browsers. Turn OFF anything you don’t absolutely need. 🙂
