I am seeing an error message on my Youtube video link when I paste the youtube link into the Featured Video area of the post. The error says “An error occurred. Please try again later.” I did select the video format on the post page and selected the suggested page template as well. On the main page, the featured video does not create a thumbnail of the featured image from this video link either. I followed the directions. Any advice would be great.

This error comes up from time to time on youtube itself. Please try it with another youtube video and see if the error is displayed again. I tested it with this video andeverything seems to display fine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Fhx2YgbskE

Did you try other videos as well? Please make sure the video you are trying to embed is not removed from youtube or you can access it on youtube as well. Please try embedding other videos as i cannot recreate this issue on my end. You can also try to disable all your plugins except visual composer, clear your cache ant try the video again to rule out plugin conflicts.
I see the embed code is different on your end. How are you embedding videos? You can simply copy the video url from youtube and paste it in the post content using the editor.

Thank you for your response with this. I imported these posts from our current live website using a different WordPress theme. The youtube videos on all of these posts work fine. However, when I copy and paste the youtube link into the featured video widget in the admin tool, the videos do not show up. I did try disabling all of the plugins and clearing the cache per your recommendation but with no success.
Part of why I chose this theme was because of the featured video functionality and the ability for it to create automatic thumbnails based on the video link. I really want to keep this theme but in the last theme we had to create screen captures of the video, upload them to media and make them the featured image. These added steps take up way too much time and wish we could get this to work.

The problem is the code you use. I do not know how the previous theme handled video embeds, but you need to copy the URL directly from youtube. Not the embed code of the post. Simply access your youtube video an copy an paste the url in the featured video section.
The embeded code is different uppon inspection and a youtube id does not show:
