Featured video instead of image

Where you can put a YouTube URL in Video field to show the video as a featured image…

I wonder does this work with a local video file URL?

There is a plugin around for this but it may not work with new WordPress versions

Will this work for a local video? A video that’s been uploaded in media on WordPress? If the media URL is entered?

Hello,

You can use locally hosted videos without any problems using the standard wp embed. What you cannot do is set it as a featured video. The featured video will only grab videos from youtube or vimeo. If you want to use locally hosted videos, please use post style 5 and add a featured image to the post as you would a normal non video post. Then simply embed the video in the content. Post style 5 does not render the featured image on the front-end so only your video will be shown.

Yes thanks for this – it would be a great feature in these days of so much video content that is shot by news orgs, and not usually put on YouTube anymore – perhaps a future development to have raw video (local) as a featured ‘image’ like the Vimeo/YT options can be considered

hi Pat,
We already have this request on our list and hopefully in a future version we will allow local videos as featured but it;s the developer team’s decision if this gets done or not so I cannot promise anything.
