Be sure to clear cache, and possibly go and resave your module and sidebar widget.
That has worked for me in the past after update. Might not help here, just a thought.

Chris thanks for your response – what I did was just recreate the homepage from scratch ( via VisualComposer ) and everything is working fine now!
Yeah… I had to go in and just “resave” modules when moving from 1.5 to 1.7 awhile back. Thankfully it’s not terribly hard. IN my case I forgot to turn off mod_pagespeed first, which meant some of the caching was on, and so something didn’t quite carry over during the upgrade. Annoying, but thankfully not something we have to do every day …. 🙂
