If I don’t use a background is it possible to make my site full width?

Hi,
Unfortunately that’s not possible, the theme uses a modified version of bootstrap 2 grid system. You can try to modify the size of the grid but you’ll need to also adjust the css for all of the theme elements. Sorry for this.
