Full width slides on homepage and 16:9 images?

Hi there,

I have two questions:

1st – Is it possible to have Slides and Big Slides on the homepage in the same format as the borderless “parallax” style 4 within the articles?

http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/popular-people-who-everyone-seems-to-love/

I would love to see that borderless image on the homepage which would increase consistency also.

2nd question – Is it possible to use images in 16:9 aspect ratio as thumbnails natively without cropping?

Thank you!

Hi,

1. You can use the "Homepage - bg" template with or without the article list and full layout like this: http://screencast.com/t/LXRL8Yqn and you will get this result: http://screencast.com/t/IvREH9NKGvD4

2. It’s possible, you cloud try to add your own image and then replace it within modules/sliders.. besides wordpress default cropping sizes http://screencast.com/t/ifk8fE1HYk and we added more sizes inside the functions.php file – http://screencast.com/t/2QaaubXnqxL you can also add your own there and then use it.
Those sizes are used on modules and sliders (including the Big Slider) , you can read here about the thumbs used on modules and sliders – https://forum.tagdiv.com/modules-and-blocks/
You also have to regenerate thumbs after you add a new image size.

About the cropping modes, you can create your own images sizes and use it like I said before, hare are some more info about this:
1. http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/add_image_size
2. http://www.davidtan.org/wordpress-hard-crop-vs-soft-crop-difference-comparison-example/
Hope this helps!

Thanks

Hi Lucian,

thanks for your reply! I will look into the image sizes and resizing as you suggested.

However, regarding the 1st question I would prefer to have the featured image (the Slider and/or the Big Slider) stretched over the whole site the same way as the parallax articles appearance. Having a background image instead does not look aligned when using style 4 “full width” for articles.

Is this feasible?

Hi,

I’m not sure what are you trying to achieve. You can have the featured image stretched to full screen width by setting the posts style 4 and making sure you don’t use any backgrounds to your site because in that case your site layout will become boxed and the full width image won’t work. You have to make sure you have an full-width layout, in that case you will have the post page when using style 4 looking like this: http://screencast.com/t/mugp3VZo
Make sure you remove the background image and color from theme panel like this: http://screencast.com/t/Vc8Zd1gzAbS
Also this feature image will be available only on post pages when using post style 4, if you want to use something like this on pages try this method: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/full-width-image-header-on-hompage/
Regarding the slider/bigslider full width, you can try to have this via css but the sliders had not been designed to work like that and I don’t know how will respond, you can give it a try or hire a freelancer to do it for you if you don’t know how.
Hope this helps!

Hi Lucian,

thanks for coming back to me. 🙂

Yes, I had the full width post pages working and was amazed how great the pictures stand out in that setup. That is why I intended to achieve the same look on the homepage with the slider for featured articles.

Yes, that is exactly what I would like to try. To have the sliders on homepages in the same look as the full width images in postings with style 4. But if it is too complicated, I may rather pass on this because my coding skills are limited unfortunately.

What kind of risk would I face with full-width sliders and is something alike on your to-do list for upcoming updates?

Hi,

I’m not sure, but you will have to redesign the slider to make it fit well into page.
We don’t have any plans to changes the slider in the near future.

Thanks for the message

Ok, sounds complicated. In this case I will deal with the other presetes. Anyways, thanks for your given advice, Lucian.
