Can you recommend the best way to make modifications to the tagdiv gallery? My site will require a lot of slideshows for photos. I want the slideshow to go to fullwidtdh lightbox/modal on click and have a sidepanel that auto-expands (again, onclick event) to show image title/description and social icons.
Just need to be pointed in the right direction. Where do I edit the style for how the slideshow behaves? Is it better if I instead use/mod a 3rd party lightbox/gallery plugin?

In this case, I recommend using a plugin for it as the lightbox is specified in a whole bunch of different files including the JS file. This file will be updated on most updates so your customization will have to be redone on every update (not dot revision).
You can use the revolution slider plugin that comes with the theme. It has lots of options.

Unfortunately we did not test any gallery plugins so we cannot recommend any. You will have to find one that works out for you.
