This problem is because of the smart list. Normally the ad should not appear at all when a smartlist is used.

ok, we use smartlist 4, ad has been showing up fine even it was smaller
now we want to use smartlist 2, ad does not show up at all, how to overcome this problem?
seems working on IE and chrome, maybe it is my firefox’ issue

The ad not showing when using a smartlist is not a problem but a theme default behavior. The fact that the ad displayed on your smartlist 4 is the exception. The only smartlists that are supposed to show ads are the last 3 ones: http://screencast.com/t/BDemVpgzPv which have ads inside their content. Any other post ad will not show by default when using a smartlist. In your case the ad could have appeared due to modifications made to the files.
