First, I want to thank everyone who has responded to this call. The intention is to add a function to the template. I mentioned this almost two years ago, and although the idea was liked, it hasn’t been implemented.

I assume that most of you who bought the template do so to publish consistently, almost daily. That’s why I think this option I’m about to discuss is important.

Surely there are articles that repeat year after year, for example:
• On this day of this year, this festival is celebrated.
• On this day of this year, this event occurred.
• On this day of this year, this person was born.
• On this day of this year, this person passed away.
• On this day of this year, this law was passed.
• You simply want an article to reappear year after year, regardless of the reason.

For this reason, I propose that the community support this to see if it can finally be incorporated into the template.

To that end, I propose two options with the same objective:

1) That the same article be republished, through a category, so that it reappears with the current date updated with the corresponding year.
2)Through blocks, allowing the filter to select those that correspond with the current day, previously marked for this purpose, for example by choosing the anniversary category.

I understand that this could be very useful for all of us who bought both this template, Newspaper, as well as Newsmag.

Thank you very much to everyone. And if by any chance there is a way to do this that is not manual, I hope you can explain it to me. I reiterate my thanks again.

You could probably make a custom widget that does a loop call to post bunch of stories based on “today” date, and put that on right side of all posts to reheat “one year old” items. Personally I don’t have need for this, and don’t want to have one year old article about a music festival fight in SERPS for the article about THIS YEAR’s event.

Heh. Yeah. I have a dozen 20+ year old news portals, and that is not really anything applicable to our sites since most ‘news’ is not news a year later. On our magazine sites, we have relational items below each post, so if there is story about a music festival in palos verdes, then below it items from a year ago related show up bottom of that post, but not random other stories.

Everyone has different use cases. You could always hire TagDiv to build this for you 🙂

Been with newsmag since v1, and still use it for our sites. So, that is still a vote of confidence in this for news/publishing sites.

I sometimes pop in as I’m in midst of backing up sites and meta and images and whatnot for a server move, and I end up with “hurry up and wait” periods of 20 min. where I can’t do much except visit here and couple of music industry forums I’m on.

Pardon the natter from me, if not helpful in any way. Just rambling vs specific solutions on this one 🙂

You say that each person has different use cases, and that’s true. But what I’m saying applies to millions of newspapers worldwide. Just because it doesn’t work for you doesn’t mean it wouldn’t work for the rest of the world. It would not only be perfect for these two themes, given their names, but also for millions of websites that want to revive their articles.

And I had no doubts about your response regarding TagDiv customization 😉

I insist that I find it much more than interesting. I continue doing it manually and through a plugin for social networks.

But I believe that contributing ideas to improve something that can serve thousands of TagDiv customers should not be overlooked. Nor should it be criticized.

As for me, yes, keep writing, I often enjoy reading what you write. How many times have you said you don’t work for TagDiv? 😊

LOL … yikes. many many years. Since Newsmag launched ? I think we tried out newsmag way back after ditching several other things including Woo and some themes that no longer exist. Since I had to do a lot of hacks to newsmag for SEO and custom magazine elements back in the day, I used to post about that. Code is much cleaner in v5 than it once was, to be sure.

Once I get everthing moved from v3x to v5x and server move probably won’t ‘lurk’ here as much again.

But so glad the company has done well and still kicking. Started with WordPress in 2004, webdev in March 1995. Seen a lot of things come and go. Newsmag is still the sweet spot for our needs.

Yes, I am also happy with Newsmag since 2019, otherwise I would not have bought Newspaper in 2023.

Exactly a bit over a year ago, I proposed this, and you thought it was a very good idea. Obviously, it doesn’t have to be done if you don’t want to, or if you want to make money from these things.

But on both occasions that I proposed it, the first time it seemed like a good idea to you (newsmag), and this time it didn’t (newspaper), I suggested it because I think it’s interesting for the template.

I don’t understand why you now say that implementing this suggestion would break the site, or that it would make the template heavier.

But in the same way that you can display the most read news of the day, week, or month in a block, you can display news from the same date in other years in that block.

I would appreciate it if the technicians could evaluate this as you mentioned, and then make the decision you deem appropriate.
