I activated the WP 2015 theme for a minutes to test something and now all my sidebars are gone!!!! They are all blank in the widget area. I restored the Theme and Plugins from back up but still no sidebars. This was DAYS of work..picking all the blocks, filling in each post and categories, etc.
1) is there any way to restore these settings?
2) How did this happen? It didn’t happen for sidebars that are not part of NP theme – just NP. And never in all the themes I’ve used has switching out themes erased all the sidebar widgets?

Hi,
This is a wordpress issue where the na,ke of the sidebar itself makes wordpress strip the sidebar. If you have any special characters inside the sidebar name; even a dot counts. WordPress will eventually strip it of content. Please do not use <>?,./'[]{}!@#$%^&*() or any other symbol in the sidebar names. Just plain text.
Our theme does not remove content from the sidebars.

Everything got stripped and I had to recreate all my sidebars. Nightmare. I’ts never happened with any other theme and there are no characters in my sidebar names. So it definitely seems to be theme related.

Unfortunately we have no reports of sidebars getting stripped without any symbols in the sidebar names. even a . can cause it. It could be another problem not related to the names though. There could be a plugin conflict that affects the sidebars. I cannot say for sure unfortunately as I cannot re-create the issue. Sorry. Please try not to use any sidebar related plugins or untested ones. If you have to use untested plugins, do a search on this forum for it to see if there are any reports of issues caused by that plugin.
