Help with a couple 404 errors

Hello,

I’m working with an SEO group and we’ve come across a couple 404 errors that I am hoping someone could help me understand how the URL is being generated.

https://www.vbjusa.com/author/john-mcdonagh/page/2/vbjusa
Note: How are these author pages generated? Where can I edit or turn them off?

https://www.vbjusa.com/focus-sections/page/2/
Note: I have many like the example above. If I can find a fix for this it would help me resolve the others.

Thanks for taking the time to help.

Hello,

This is the thing. there is no such page. The links provide a 404 and that means the page does not exist.
This page is the correct one:
https://www.vbjusa.com/author/john-mcdonagh/page/2/
It is not a concern for incorrect links as you can basically type any incorrect link and you get a 404. The possibilities are endless.

Where do you get these errors though? What tool are using for tests? What is generating the incorrect link?

Thank you!

Hello Bogdan,

Thanks for your feedback.

If you take off the vbjusa at the end of the url it does go to a legitimate url as you pointed out. https://www.vbjusa.com/author/john-mcdonagh/page/2/vbjusa

I’m curious as to how/where it was/is being generated. Am I to understand that it is not generated by a Newspaper theme setting? If not then I can move on and find search elsewhere for the fix.

The tool being used is Screaming Frog. https://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/seo-spider/

Thanks again.

Hi,

Using the Yoast SEO plugin and this option
https://www.screencast.com/t/F2sCFHmlu
You can disable the author pages, if an author name is clicked or a user tries to access the author page it will redirect to the homepage if that option is disabled
https://kb.yoast.com/kb/disable-enable-author-archives/

Thanks
