I would like to feature a field for users to enter their address and hopefully have it powered by google so that the address automatically comes up after the user enters the first few characters of their address. Please tell me this is possible. I am new to Newspaper — dumb it down for me:)!
If it helps, I want to add it to the top slider in the “Construction Demo” — or, create a sidebar so that it appears in the top portion of the site.

I believe what you are looking for is a newsletter/subscription functionality. That would be possible through a plugin, there are quite a few free plugins that you can try. Search for some and try a few, pick the one you like.
There is a newsletter element in the tagDiv composer, in which you can enter newsletter codes, currently from only a few providers however

This element can only be placed on pages at the moment. For post sidebars you can use a text widget and enter the form code in it.
