That page it’s built with Visual Composer and the first element added is Homepage Post block: http://screencast.com/t/4v01VNpIyTN
Yo can replicate that layout by adding on the top of the page homepage post block then other blocks from Visual Composer.

Have you deleted before this category? If so the theme won’t create it again but you recreate it again, just make sure you name it as it’s indicate here; http://screencast.com/t/zL8q9cTY4j

I’ve made some testes with background click ad an my side and seems that we have a conflict in the theme. I forward this to theme’s developers and they will inspect it in shortest time possible.

1. http://demo.tagdiv.com/select_demo/select_demo_newsmag here we use a custom structure for the page, basically there it’s a modified version of the theme. There we use a video background for the row which is also possible using Visual Composer: http://screencast.com/t/DmxOdddokCd

2. The slider won’t work as a background video, you have to use a video from an external source as I’ve indicated above.
