Home page disappeared

Hello,
My home page has suddenly disappeared from the pages menu. It still displays on the website, however. But when you go to the list of pages in the dashboard, Home is not there. Instead, it randomly says something that used to be a post is now the “front page.” Also, if I view the home page (which still exists and looks normal), and try to click into the Edit screen from there, it also goes to a random post that is not the home page. How can I get it back so I can keep working on it?

Hello,

I figured out that it was the Nelio External Featured Image plugin update that did it. If I deactivate Nelio plugin, I get my home page back. It wasn’t working right with Newspaper theme anyway.

That said, I do need a way to automatically pull the first external image as the featured image. The plugins that do this (Nelio External Featured Image and WP Autoset Featured Image Plus) do not work properly with Newspaper, because the featured image isn’t being called in the usual way using (get_)the_post_thumbnail for printing the img tag. I’m using Embedly for most of my content, and need to use external featured images. Do you have another method for me to automatically use the external image as the featured image since the typical plugins for this don’t work with Newspaper theme?

We use Auto Post Thumbnail PRO which works perfectly the past 2 years with Newspaper / Newsmag. 🙂

I think it’s on THemeForest/Envato for maybe $8 and totally worth it — we use it on 6 websites with no issues.

I just installed it, and created a new post, but there is still no featured image. Is there a trick to getting it set up right?

well, obviously you need to have imagemagik/GD library running on your server to make images; your image folder needs to be “writable”

I can’t find anything in their documentation that refers to what you’re talking about.

I’ve been in touch with the plugin developer of Auto Post Thumbnail Pro, and it actually doesn’t do what I need it to do. It is not pulling the external image from this post:

as the featured image. I am using the plugin Embedly to get the image in there. The only way the plugin can pull an external image is if the image is referenced explicitly, which it is not.

Nelio External Featured Image was able to do this, but it doesn’t work with Newspaper theme because of the way the featured image is called.
