Homepage sidebar issues?

I have am using the same side bar throughout my website, but for some reason the posts that display in both the editior’s pick (which is set to display ‘featured” posts) and the most popular (which is set to popular “all time’) blocks on the homepage aren’t correct. They work in the sidebar on other pages and on posts, but not on the static front page where they seem to just display random posts…

Oh, that’s weird! We use a widgitised sidebar, and it’s set to the newspaper default.
