Hello,
Is there a way to host Google fonts locally or any other solution that would speed up their loading?

Hello !
Unfortunately this option is not available in Newspaper Theme.
You can however make sure to optimize your fonts. Please make sure that you are not using too many fonts, or too many abreviations ( font weights, etc )
