I probably should have installed the theme in a sub-directory called “blog” instead of the root directory. So how do I uninstall the current one from the root directory – I don’t see this anywhere.

Hello !
In order to remove the theme you will have to activate another theme and then the delete button will be available: https://www.screencast.com/t/NmWnzvbq6 | https://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-delete-a-wordpress-theme/
Also make sure to remove the plugins too.
