We recently switched from NewsMag to Newspaper.
Now one important problem is: With Newspaper approx. 30.000 Articles have been published in many different templates (approx 90% in 2 different templates); …and look bad now!
We decided to customize a Cloud Temple (Single) for our new layout.
How can we change all the older postings to appear in the new template layout?

You can try setting the default post template from here: https://www.screencast.com/t/HUxfLoNkQ But take note that if you have applied individual template on posts they will not be overwritten by the global settings.

is it possible – as a dirty workaround – to fool the system by renaming a duplicate of our new favorite template incl. all settings to the name of the old template that was used before?
