You can do that with blocks.

Hi,
The article titles in that widget (Recent Posts) inherit the theme global color set here

There is no options to change the article display in that widget, if I understand correctly what you mean.
You can also use a block in the sidebar, with the same name and with the sorting options and filters you want. And also customize it the way you want. More about the available block settings here
