How to choose which category is shown

Hello

I am designing a post template with CLOUD TEMPLATES.

As you can see in this image, the category being shown is “FEATURES”
1

However on the article I have enabled Three categories (Features, Sport and NBA)

I want only the NBA category to show on the post. I have set PRIMARY category as NBA but still it only shows FEATURES on the Article post

Look in this image i have set it as NBA:

So basically, I want the NBA category to show as oppose to the “Features” category. Thanks.

Hi,

The primary category setting will not affect the tags displayed in the post page. Here you can see what will be affected by the primary category setting
https://forum.tagdiv.com/primary-category/

There is a setting that will hide the category tag in single posts and category pages (the setting is per category), but that is a general setting
https://www.screencast.com/t/Erk0NBYU

A setting for what you want to do does not exist, it would be like choosing which categories to display there. In the post page all the categories of the post are shown, unless they are hidden with the general setting.

Maybe the cloud templates will get such a setting for the single post categories element, in the future. Now there is only an order selection and limit

Thanks

This does not work as expected!
Even though I have set a primary category, the automatic setting chooses the first category.
Is it just me or is this a bug within the Newsmag Post setting?

Hi,

@Achim
Should work, provide some examples of what are you doing, and what is actually happening.
It would be like this, choose from the categories of a post a primary one like in this example
https://www.screencast.com/t/qHYO2ajpqou
Then all modules will display that category tag – https://www.screencast.com/t/ngLsq3a23GZ

Hi, thanks or the fast response.

Of course the primary category will be displayed if I choose the primary category in the post settings.

But if I do not select a primary category (in the post settings) and leave it at “Auto select a category” it should auto select the primary category specified in the categorie sidebar as stated in the help pop up… and that is not working…

If none is selected manually, the first one alphabetically will be picked. In the example above I have set a primary category manually and that was displayed.

In this one I don’t choose one – https://www.screencast.com/t/tYdG3NlTHnBP
So the first one alphabetically is picked – https://www.screencast.com/t/VOgxW5QAqJf

If there is a problem provide some examples on you website so we can take a look. Or send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com and mention the details there, provide admin login so we can investigate further (include a link to this topic in the email).

I don’t quite understand what you mean. Even if you make the modifications in the theme files, what will be the deciding factor?

Please try and use the settings as it is implemented instead of making modifications in the code which will be lost after a theme update or not work properly or stop working at a future date, causing problems for all your posts.

The deciding factor is the primary category I want to be displayed. I don’t understand how anyone may want to have the first category (alphabetically) shown and not the primary category (apart from a few exceptions, maybe).

Once again:
I have multiple categories and I want the primary category to be displayed. And I do not want to select every time in the dropdown menu the category I need (which is the primary category) …

Thanks.

But you can set the primary category for each post, that is not a problem. It’s what the setting was created for.

If you don’t want to select one it will be as I mentioned before. This would be all there is to it. Set a primary category manually or leave it on auto.

Sorry if this is an inconvenience, but this is the only way to set a primary category for the posts.
