How to overwrite theme thumbnail settings?

I want to ask how I can completely overwrite the theme thumbnail settings. I want my latest posts section similar to Magazinelib
The only module that supports tall images is Module 19. But that one will show one in each row and I want to have them as the above mentioned website has- in two or three columns. Is there any way to achieve this? There is a workaround that I came up with. Using a module with 324*235 thumbnail size, but that requires me creating featured images for each post with transparent sides and the magazine in between. That way I can show the entire magazine cover but then the image is too small and contents of the cover are not visible. Is there something you can do to help me with this. In short, I want this- http://imgur.com/a/aewR2
As far as I can understand it can work if I can get into the theme code somehow and set a particular thumbnail to my preferred size? Please help! lol

Best regards

Hello,

If you want to use a custom thumb in a block you will have to use the theme api to change the thumbnails size for that block: https://forum.tagdiv.com/td_api_thumbupdate/
This however represents customization and is not covered by the theme support.

Thanks.
