How to remove /category taxonomy from Breadcrumbs and customize the text

2 things I need help with…

1) How do I remove the taxonomy from the Breadcrumbs links.

Example: I need the breadcrumb links to be example.com/blue-widgets as opposed to example.com/category/blue-widgets

2) I need to customize the text to only show the actual category name rather than the page/post name as it currently does?

Example: I need the link text to be as follows: home > toys > boys > best-shirts-for-boys instead of home > toys for kids > toys for boys > best-shirts-for-boys. The first one takes only the category name where as the second one actually takes the page name.

Note: I’m not using the category page templates because I’m putting custom content on these category pages and need to use a regular page.

Cheers and thanks!

Hi,

1. So you want to remove the category base from the URL? That can be done with Yoast SEO for example. The result will be xample.com/blue-widgets no more /category/

In the breadcrumb path there would be no actual term “category” unless maybe you have a category called that way. The theme settings for breadcrumbs are these

2. The breadcrumbs element when using a cloud template has a few more settings

But for what you want to do exactly there would be no setting. If you use pages instead of the category pages, and page parent-child relation, the name of the pages will appear in the breadcrumbs. Pages cannot have categories.

Thanks

I didn’t ask for this, but it’s just what I was looking for, and with the 1st option I could removed the /category/ from the URL.

Thank you very much Simon!
