How to remove the big gap in header of post, and change hover over color

Hi, I have two questions:
1. I am using the sport theme, may I know how to remove the big gap in the header of post? Some people complaint that why do they have to scroll through a big empty section on top before they can see the content?
2. May I know how to change the hover over color? Right now, seems like the text and background are all white. When someone mouse over a hyperlink, the whole think just disappeared or turned white.
Please help.

as you can see, when you mouse over the hyperlinks, they will turn white.
