How to use DEMOs for a "test" or staging site?

Hello
I have an online site with the Newspaper theme installed, that I started some years ago with the “local news” demo but I made finally a lot of changes in three years.

Now I would like to change my website look, and I wold like to have another style like the “Recipes” demo.

What happens if I install the demo? It will overwrite my homepage immediately so users will see immediately the new site (with probably some issues like broken links, empty grids and others faluts to be corrected).

And what happens when I will unistall it? It will revert my website to the current status with my actual home, menues, pages, articles ?

What I would like is to have an help to know if it’s possible to create a sort of “test” (staging) enviroment to test the theme demo, to apply some changes, and then if it’s ok go to overwrite the online content with the test one.

Is this possible to do in this way in the theme or I have to manage a third party solution like a plugin or basically I will create another wordpress install importing the old site and then install the new demo, making all the changes, and finally go to overwrite the old site with the new one changing the directories/folders?

Thanks!

Hello,

Yes, it is absolutely recommended to create a staging site for testing such modifications. Please use this guide: http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-create-staging-environment-for-a-wordpress-site/

Thanks.
