Just dl’d Newspaper and am configuring it. Saw that Visual Composer has an upgrade and came here to figure that out… so I need to wait for the Newspaper upgrade. How will I know when an upgrade is avaialble, and where will I dl it? Themeforest?

Yup… Check the box on the themeforest downloads page in your account. I always get updates email with no prob.

You can also install the envato plugin which enables automatic updates, check this guide section 2 – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme/
The update can also be done manually via ftp.

So I installed the Envato WP Toolkit[1] and even upgraded the theme. Sweet…
But… now I have two versions of theme:
1) The version that I downloaded from Envato on March 10, version 4.6.1 (according to styles.css) but which includes a folder named, “/patch_4.6.1_4.6.2/”, so, I assume this is actually v4.6.2, However it still includes Visual Composer 4.3.5… is that how it is supposed to be?
2) The version that I got in the update through the envato-wordpress-toolkit plugin: version 444 (According to styles.css)
Fortunately 4.6.1 is still the installed version, but there is also a 4.6.2 currently in release according to the product page (with an updated Visual Composer…).
Ah, this is interesting… I missed it the first time, but this is what the Envato WP Toolkit upgrade page looks like in my install[1]. It even says that I can upgrade from, 4.6.1 to 444.

You can update the theme(also if you updated) without any problems. There was a mistake in style.css file where was added 444 version but this is 4.6.2 version of the theme. Sorry for inconvenience!
Also Visual Composer latest version is 4.4.2 and you can find it in /plugins folder from theme files that you downloaded from themeforest: https://forum.tagdiv.com/update-the-visual-composer-plugin-wpbakery/

Um, ok… so something still seems a bit screwey, but I’ll wait till the next version comes out to figure it out.
There indeed was version 4.4.2 of Visual Composer in the dl that I got directly from Envato, so that was good. Not sure where 4.3.5 came from.
I went ahead and deleted the 444 version of the theme, and am using the 4.6.1… (which is actually 4.6.2? lol…) and am enjoying the theme. Thanks!
I’m also using the Gethub Envato plug-in and have set it up per the instructions Emil posted above. No problems so far, thanks for the tip! As for the Visual Composer plug-in update that comes inside of the package, it never automatically installs the latest version of plug-in, even if you’re using the Gethub solution, correct? Or is there a way to automatically have the updater also update the VC plugin at the same time it does the theme? Thanks!

You can update the theme like it is specified in our documentation, unfortunately Visual Composer can be updated only manually as the plugin comes with the theme’s files and you can’t update it directly from the it’s producer.
