How/When/Why the heck has my theme become UNREGISTERED?!?!

Today I attempted to update the theme from 11.2 to 11.3.1.

Apart from the fact that once again I was required to manually activate the tagdiv plugins on which the theme is dependent, which broke my site (the infamous tagdiv short-codes all over the place phenomenon), I was requested to manually update the plugins. Following the appropriate guide for that, I realized that the plugins were already up to date (more reasons to scratch my head!). Then I navigated to the Newspaper section of the WP installation, only to be notified that after 18 months of regular use, my theme appears to be UNREGISTERED.

I resolved the issue with the short-codes by manually deactivating all tagdiv-related components, re-activating them, activating the parent theme, re-activating the child theme, and flushing the cache. But I am left wondering how the heck has my theme become UNREGISTERED!? How can something like this be possible? Isn’t the license active for life anymore, or what?

I am literally and honestly at the point where one thinks that one would be better off leaving the thing alone – if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, right?. Because every time one touches the thing, the thing crumbles! Jeez!

Hello!

It’s strange because if you buy the license once, then you should have it for life how you mentioned. While you have the code, then it could be reactivated again.
If the problem is solved now and for the next update you will face the same issue, please contact us and we will take a look to see from where this problem appears.

Thank you for understanding!

Hi Bettina,

We are talking about two very different problems here. One is the theme appearing to be unregistered. The second is (was) that the theme completely broke the output on the front page. The former is still there – the theme appears to be unregistered still. The latter we addressed like explained previously. Allow me to point out that some theme settings were completely erased in the process of switching between child -> parent -> child themes; settings like the header, the logo, the default post template, the custom ads 1, 2, 3, 4, and more.

To be completely transparent with you, I am very hesitant in touching the update buttons again any time soon. This is not the first time I am experiencing unexpected output caused by updating Newspaper. If you search on previous tickets of mine (you could search history for my email associated with this account) you could verify this. Living with Newspaper has been anything but easy and trouble-free.

I attempted to re-activate the theme, but the wheel kept spinning, and spinning, and spinning. It was at least 5 minutes of spinning until I realized it was not going anywhere, and I had to cancel.

This is an alive installation, and every time something like this happens it never goes unnoticed. We honestly hope there will never be a “next time” in the months to come. The activation code is available, and we would rather resolve this without having to go through a similar experience another time.

Thanks.

Hello!

Please make a full backup, send an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide wp-admin and Cpanel access, so we can investigate this issue. Also paste a link to this topic so we can easily identify you.
Let us know and we will gladly assist you.

Thanks!

Hi Bettina,

I don’t think this is a viable solution. As I explained previously, this site is quite an alive one. This means that if I create a backup, grant you wp-admin and cPanel access, and then the unfortunate happens, the backup would be stale. Please let me know what other options would be available?

Thanks.

Hello!

I recommend you to try to use the staging plugin, so you won’t ruin your website, check also this article from here and give it a try: https://themeisle.com/blog/wordpress-staging-site/
