Friends,
Since SHIM plugin stopped working with the latest versions of the theme, I have been suffering from overload problems, mainly CPU spikes with an avalanche of requests to the files:
Public_html / wp-admin / admin-ajax.php
Public_html / index.php
This happens suddenly, without leaving clues, everything is unstable for a while and returns to normal.
However, when I disable the Visual Composer plugin, the problem does not occur and the resources remain at normal levels.
I need to make SHIM work again, because with it I have solved this problem for a long time, but without it I become a slave of the VC again and I have faced this problem since the last months of 2016.

I think the SHIM was abandoned, due to the successor being the BETA plugin “TagDiv Composer”…
The trick right now if the Github page is still down, is to get the free version of the “WPION” theme from their commercial website and use the TD composer plugin included with that. This is what I’m doing on the Newsmag 3.1 theme in place of the ooooold shim workaround. For me that stopped working when we moved to 3x version of Newsmag and finally moved to PHP 5.6 from 5.4 in prep for 7.
I’m actually considering switching out Newsmag to WPION paid version.
Note the TD Composer “might” not work, but should work. You will have to redo your home page layout again, but trick is to make a snapshot of it while working with old version, and then “map” that out using the new version of TD Composer … much improved over the shim!
I suppose I was one of several people who “caused” the shim dev in first place as our old server would spike to 72 vs 0.8 with VC back in 2014. But shim pretty much retired.

Correction: I’m actually using the final BETA from the Github site from Dec./Jan., not the WPION version, which is a rev or three newer.

Friend, I want to thank you very much for sharing your experience and knowledge with other users like me.
Actually, I had tried the VC however I had some problems that I no longer remember well what they were.
Anyway, I’ll try again now with your tip on WPION.
Incidentally, I did not know this and I was very curious about it and the differences compared to the Newspaper. Maybe I can try the premium version and see if we will perform better, do you think it’s possible?

I personally dislike VC … but it’s the most popular builder solution out there, and used by most of the biggest selling themes on ThemeForest, and arguably better for most peeps that using a totally custom builder that might be abandoned at any point.
We stopped using it due to the server CPU oddities, and the fact it keeps getting bigger and bigger with things we will personally never use, so the WPION “sideways” project TagDiv is doing is pretty cool. 🙂
