is there a way to translate the comment section
into German without installing some kind of i18n plugin?

Hi,
You can use the section from the theme to translate the frontent website -> https://i.imgur.com/NDEFhrf.png or you can translate individual words -> https://i.imgur.com/9zp1TVA.png -> https://i.imgur.com/xXytelf.png
