The image thumbnail is not covering the block image container, since the image does not cover the container there is a black background where the image should go.

Hello,
have you tried running force-regenerate-thumbnails plugin?

This plugin should fix all of your existing thumbs images, but if in the future you upload small images, they will be showing like this. Use images greater than 700×400 or use a plugin like thumbnail upscale.
