Image size

Is there a way to change the default sizes of the images? Or maybe the size they are being treated by ig. The big Grid. My problem is that I export images sometimes from a video 16:9 and would like the images to stay in that aspect. Its not nice when they are being stretched verticaly…out of proportion…

I think you need to turn on the “crop” function for thumbnails somewhere, and then also do regenerate thumbnails. It’s not normal for the theme to “distort” the images you upload. Normally it should make smaller versions and crop to fit that size, losing some of the aspect just like going from a widescreen TV to a square TV, or comparable.

Also remember WP cannot make larger images than what you upload, so you would need to use a plugin like ‘thumbnail upscale’ for featured images on home page or categories larger than what you upload.

Thanks Chris S ! Sounds like the way to do it. I will try to find the crop function.

Thanks again for quick reply!

I have been popping in to check on release of new version with fix for the bug affecting review ratings in Google SERPS/snippets in the NEWSMAG theme (not Newspaper).

So, throwing my two cents in from time to time when I see something in forum I might be able to help with a moment of my time.

Glad to help!

…i am not proud to admit that I can’t find out where to set the crop function… It seem like that option is no longer there…?

Hm. It might be on either the wordpress > media > settings page (same place with the small/medium/large sizes for thumbnails.

Or, I think it was in the theme panel … um…. (you know, I am now getting the two themes confused…) …

okay…
theme panel > post settings > featured images > crop featured image …

Yes, thats where I have been looking but that option is not there… !?
when I google this I see that there is an option as you say… but not on my site…

I have a link to a screen-shot:

Hm. I don’t think my site that I checked has the latest and greatest version of Newspaper, which might explain that.

This will definitely be a TagDiv helpdesk question!

I’m assuming you checked the box is checked on the WordPress > settings > media size thumbnails page?

[x]Crop thumbnail to exact dimensions (normally thumbnails are proportional)

Yes, Its checked… Maybe I should ask in the TagDiv helpdesk. 🙂
Thanks for all your help Chris S!

🙂
I’m sure Marius or Lucian, et al, will follow up to this ticket soon.

Maybe include a link to your page where you see this issue, along with link to the original image you uploaded from your media folder?

Yes, thats a good idea! 🙂

And the photos I upload are the same size as the thumbs for the videoplayer. (You can see the image when you click on a image on the front page. The post image is a videoplayer)

Hi,

I see you are using the newsmag theme. That is why you don’t have the crop feature image option in theme panel as this is present just on newspaper theme.
Please address your questions on newsmag forum section on future: https://forum.tagdiv.com/forum/newsmag/
The big grid uses this two image sizes/thumbs: http://screencast.com/t/ucE2vOfWEy In order to change them you need to alter their sizes here: http://screencast.com/t/u1V0JjGCQNZR
Then regenerate thumbnails: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-fix-strange-thumbnails/
Then you need to alter/adjust the container width via css. Here is the css code for the big grid: http://screencast.com/t/9qRFpsCE
This is not easy if you don’t have basic php/html/css knowledge so I suggest to make a backup and get some to help you with hit if you don’t know how to do it yourself.
I suggest you make a backup of your current theme installation before you alter it and get someone to help you with it if you don’t know how to do it.
Hope this helps!

Thanks
