in featured image of post , there is no option of adding image through a URL (just like you an add image on any image hosting site and show it in your post)
how to activate it?

WordPress doesn’t support that natively. WordPress loads the featured image from the media repository. You might have to use a plugin like Auto Post Thumbnail PRO to be able to use external images as your featured image.
Not a theme issue, but basic WordPress functionality.

Just to be clear :
facebook supports URl images on pages/post , but not on featured image?

Hi,
Not sure what you mean with facebook, i guess you wanted to say wordpress. Like Christopher said, you cannot use by default an Url, you have to modify the code or use a plugin for this.
