Incompatibility between "Newspaper" and "Newsmag"

Greetings.
We have purchased both the Newspaper and the Newsmag themes for use in a WordPress multisite installation.

Upon activating the theme Newspaper in a sub-site, we are prompted with updates, and activations, of its required plugins. This works as expected, without issue.

However, when moving on to another sub-site in which we want to use Newsmag, the theme reports that the tagDiv Composer plugin is Outdated and any attempt to activate it results in a fatal error because it requires critical Newsmag files. Restoring those files from the purchase bundle leads to a warning that the tagDiv Composer plugin was disabled because they are incompatible with this version of Newsmag.

If we update tagDiv Composer from the Newsmag interface, it breaks Newspaper for the same “missing files and outdated version” reasons, and the cycle begins all over again.

These seem to be two themes that depend on different versions of the same plugin.

It there any way to have Newspaper and Newsmag co-existing on WordPress multisite with single version of tagDiv Composer?

Thank you.

Hello !

Unfortunately not. Also please note that Newspaper and Newsmag theme have note been tested on multisites and they do report errors being used on this kind of platform.

Thank you for your understanding !

Thank you for your response.

It is unfortunate (and somewhat bewildering) that two of your very own themes don’t work well with each other. Specially when considering that the sharing of a common plugin would normally imply synergies, not complete incompatibilities.

More troubling, though, is the fact that we saw no mention — or warnings — of reported errors for these themes in multisite installations on the extensive description of both of the products (to say nothing about the above incompatibilities).

So we have now bought two items of yours but are limited to using only one of them, assuming that one works at all in the long run.

This is disappointing and unacceptable, and given your response we will most likely investigate the possibility of a refund.

I’ve spent two days writing code to isolate and get around the problem, to no avail. I do have a suggestion for the author(s): Rename your tagDiv files so that they are not the same name as those called by the other theme. Perhaps by adding the name of your theme to the tagDiv file names throughout the theme. Unique file names (everywhere!) would eliminate the compatibility problems. I gave up and moved my new site out of the multi-site WordPress and onto a new install.
