So the canonical rel of the amp version refers to itself and not to the non-amp version and vice versa.

Indeed there seems to be a problem for canonical links on amp if you have set a loop ( pagination).
Please try with Yoast seo plugin hope this will help you!
Please make sure that you are using the amp with mobile theme and you do not have a plugin conflict.
