Incorrect Meta Description picked up

Hi,

Google picks up incorrect meta description which is from the article titles placed in right sidebar or Related articles at the bottom or even from Next and Previous articles at times.

For example: look at this search query link.

Because of this irrelevant articles show up in search results.

Also look at the screenshot

Hi,

I checked one of the posts that shows the wrong description in Google, seems to have a proper description which should be picked by Google

Maybe check some more online guides in the mater for more information

Yes…. all the articles have proper meta descriptions but for some reason it picks them from related posts or other articles in widget areas….Can you please suggest something to fix it.

Many thanks!

Google will normally read the open graph meta data if properly found in the head of your file, and readable when you ‘fetch as google’ to verify and check with console audit.

Google may also show other info from your page when ‘scraped’ but you have no way of controlling that. The proper meta tags, without any duplicates or errors, is the best you can actually do to ensure Google grabs correct information.

This has been the case for quite some time and is nothing new to your site or any site.
