I’ve just found out that all of a sudden I have a huge increase in the number of “Not Followed” (Response code 301) on my Google Console/Webmaster tools.
It looks like the following (cut and paste below):

When I put the urls in the browser bar, it comes up as a bunch of chinese gibberish: domain.com/趣拍hb老虎机注册送彩金+q82019309.com
I’m wondering if this is being generated by the search box. Am I being hit with a spam bot which is spamming my search box? If so, is there a way to combat this?

Use Wordfence plugin and ban this “Hackers”.

I’m already using a security plugin and have a few security measures in place, but am curious to know how these links are being generated in the first place. I notice the ending has feed/rss2 on it. I’d like to understand and fix the problem and not just rely on a plugin.
I’m curious if the developers of the Newspaper theme have any ideas how this could be happening.

I’ve been getting the same thing. Any solution?
Simple fix is to use monitoring tools on your hosting account to see where largest amount of unwanted ‘hits’ are coming from and block their IP or IP block of numbers at bad ISP.
Or, use whatever your current monitoring tools are and start implementing a bad behavior block list of banned IPs from visiting your website.
We have about 500 blocked IP ranges in our block list from Russia, N Korea, eastern Europe, parts of Africa, etc. which abuse our system but now cannot reach pages or load ANY content from our sites.
Anybody can ping your search with ? and also try password resets, look for bad exploits for nulled themes and plugins on your system. Downside to ‘dynamic’ sites vs static pages.
