Please make sure that you have permission for upload folder, you can try to upload an image to media library to check this. If you can upload an image, please provide errorlog file so we can take a look at this, also you can ask this to your host. Let me know!

Thanks it’s working now (had to change permission to 777 – but I guess that makes is unsecure). By default the folder permission should be 775 or 777 for uploads?

unfortunately I am not a good server administrator and we mostly let our host configure the server for us but you can follow this guide: https://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_File_Permissions
Hope this helps.. and I’ve also fixed the error message to be more user friendly.
