Currently the CPU shows at 19%. When I installed Newspaper, the CPU usage went up to 72%. At first I thought it could be that I was getting DDos’d. I blocked certain countries. Still going up. I tried Newspaper on three domains.
I registered the theme with the key thing then unregistered, repeat for the second one then the third one. I was not using Newspaper on three sites at the same time.. Now that that is out of the way…
I removed Newspaper…It’s been under 25%.
So…why is server CPU so high when I have Newspaper. I want to install it back on one of my sites. But I can’t justify the high CPU usage.
Could it be third-party widgets like the instagram or social media counters?
FOR THE RECORD: I THINK NEWSPAPER IS A GREAT THEME.
On our sites, we found stuff like infinite load, too many modules in sidebar, too many modules on home page, dynamic queries for mega menu, dymanic queries to socials – all use hella lot of resources. You can test this by disabling things, and see what happens. Upshot: anything that has to do calculations like most popular, random, dbase lookup, etc — all use CPU.

There are indeed features from the theme that consume CPU, it depends on what’s used in the page. And if’s not a matter of having high traffic, or the caching/optimization not working correctly, or perhaps even malware, then something else is causing it.
We could take a look at it. Have you maybe tested the theme on a staging website as well? Or would it be possible to set up a staging environment where we could take a look?
