Issues after update: Header Logo left & social widget messed up

Hi there,

I just updated to V7 – and now my header logo got stuck on the left no matter which header style is selected (I was going with style 10 before). Furthermore, the social widget doesn´t seem to work anymore.

HeaderLogo before update:

Headerlogo after update:

Furthermore, the mobile logo seems to be messed up, too :(. As the site isn´t online yet, I just deactivated most of my pages, so that you can have an eye on it.

Looking forward to your help!

Cheers

EDIT:

Oh, and I just saw that on pages other than the startpage (e.g. A/B Testing), the Header Logo scales totally wrong. Seems that Newspaper uses the standard Logo PNG on the startpage (left) and the retina one on all other pages (but way too big).

Header logo too big

EDIT: Fixed issues with social widget (reinstalled the update, seems that the first activation went wrong).
Problems with the header logo are still there 😉

Hi Bodgan B,

thank you very much for your reply, that helped a lot! But I‘m asking myself now: Am I right to assume that I simply can‘t use

.td-logo { width: 130px; }

in custom css anymore? Actually, I used it in order to get a sharper & crispier Header Logo…

Hi,
I assume you got the css from our documentation. In newspaper 7 we changed the css a bit and the logo received a h1 tag for seo purposes so the css will not apply properly anymore. You will have toi use this code instead:
.td-header-sp-logo img {
width:130px!important;
}

We will update the documentation for this change.
Thank you!

Hi Bogdan,

thanks for your reply, very much appreciated! But yet some more questions came up ;):

1.) When entering the css above, the logo “flickers” from its original size to the one defined in the css (e.g. from 400px to 300px)

2.) after playing with the font styles in the theme panel, the very same happens to the fonts. For example, let‘s say I‘ve changed the menu fonts from default open sans to bold – and everytime I switch the page or reload the page, I can see the font switching from standard to bold

This looks like the css injection happens on site of the client and too low – is there any way to prevent this stuff from flickering? This really bothers me…

Thanks!

PS: Same goes for the MENU BACKGROUND COLOR by the way – changed it from white to #efefef and everytime a page loads, you can see it switching from #ffffff to #efefef.

Help is very much needed…

Hi,
All these style cascades are from using speedbooster or similar tools to move the css render block to footer. This is good for page speed but bad for visuals unfortunately. There is no middle way about this. If you move style.css to the footer then it will load after all of the content and apply your css settings afterwards. If this bothers you, please remove style.css from speedbooster or other tools so the css will load first. It will not have a significant pagespeed drop.
Thank you!

Hi Bodgan B,

thanks again – could you please tell me how i can remove style.css from speedbooster? Speedbooster itself doesn’t offer any preferences at all…

Thanks!

Hi again Bodgan,

sorry for asking again – I tried to find what I´m looking for, but beside deactivating speed booster completely (what I would like to avoid), I can´t find any option to make sure that I css gets loaded immediately.

Honestly, I´m wondering: Does it make sense at all to use speedbooster with your theme? If I got you right, the usage of speedbooster will ALWAYS result in flickering regarding ANY css changes in the theme panel. I mean, I simply changed the font weight…

What do you think?

Looking forward to your help!

Cheers

Hi,
Speedbooster increases the site’s loading speed. Try to test your site with google pagespped insights with and without speedbooster. If the speed drop is not very high, you can disable the plugin altogether. Page speed is very personal and depends on lots of things. For some users speedbooster provides better speeds, and for some not so much. If you can live with the speed drop then disable the plugin.
If you do want to use speedbooster and just remove the style.css from speedbooster, you need to access this file and comment out these lines of code: http://screencast.com/t/7BfLewBSJ
Thank you!

Hi Bodgan,

thanks again for your help – very much appreciated.

Hmmm…actually, I´m not sure if that´s really the source of the flickering here. I just disabled speedbooster for testing, but the experience remains the same.

The only other plugin I would expect to have an influence on that behavior is WP Super Cache, but as this one is listed as fully supported by your theme…

Would you mind to have a look on the page yourself? Feel free to click the navigation and keep an eye on the logo, the header color and the font weight.

Looking forward to your input!

Hi,
the logo pops out like that because of the css size re-write you made in the thme panel. Unfortunately this is how css works. It will load every rule one at a time. It cannot re-write without applying the previous rule first. In order to bypass this, please try to add the code I provided directly in style.css at the bottom of the file like so: http://screencast.com/t/eCCbYKPyF7Io
That will stop the logo from changing sizes.
Thanks.
